Safari Experiences Beyond the Hunt

A stay at Mukuru Safaris offers more than an exceptional South African hunting safari. Set in the scenic Waterberg Mountain Range in Limpopo, Mukuru gives guests, families, companions, and non-hunters the opportunity to experience Africa in different ways — from the air, on horseback, after dark, beside the water, and through unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Whether you are joining a hunter on safari, planning a family trip, or simply want to make the most of your time in South Africa, our additional activities help turn your visit into a complete African adventure.

Activities are available by prior arrangement and may depend on season, availability, weather, and booking requirements.

Perfect for Non-Hunters, Families and Companions

See Africa from a Different Perspective

Experience the Waterberg and surrounding African plains from above with an unforgettable helicopter safari. This exclusive game-viewing experience offers a different perspective of the landscape, from mountain views to open plains where wildlife such as zebra and wildebeest may be seen moving through the veld.

A helicopter safari is ideal for guests who want to take in the scale, beauty, and atmosphere of the African bush in a truly memorable way. This as a way to experience Africa from above, including views from the highest mountains and closer views of wildlife on the plains.

A Close and Memorable Wildlife Encounter

For guests who want a meaningful wildlife experience outside of hunting, an elephant interaction offers a close, personal, and safe encounter with these remarkable animals.

This activity gives guests the opportunity to learn more about elephants and experience their intelligence, presence, and character in a respectful setting. It is especially suited to non-hunting companions, families, and international guests wanting a deeper connection with African wildlife.

Discover the Bushveld After Dark

The African bush changes completely after sunset. A night safari gives guests the opportunity to experience South Africa’s nocturnal wildlife and the atmosphere of the veld after dark.

Many animals are more active at night, creating a completely different safari experience from daytime game viewing. Night Safari Is a chance to experience South Africa’s night life in the bush and see nocturnal animals that guests would not usually see during the day.

Explore the Reserve at a Slower Pace

A horseback safari gives guests a peaceful and immersive way to experience the private reserve, terrain, and wildlife. Moving through the bush on horseback allows you to enjoy the scenery at a slower pace and feel more connected to the landscape.

Horses are seen as a normal part of daily life, which may allow guests to get closer to wildlife in certain settings. The private reserve also offers diverse terrain, scenery, and wildlife, including rarer species that may not be easily observed elsewhere.
